Frederick D. Smith ’65 passed away on July 19, 2024, in Norwalk, Connecticut. Fred came to Dartmouth from Philadelphia via Germantown Friends School; a 3-2 Tuck School graduate, he was an economics major and member of Bones Gate.

G. Eric Knox ’65 died on October 9, 2024, in Cornucopia, Wisconsin, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He came to Dartmouth from Minneapolis; a sociology major, he was treasurer of Beta Theta Pi and played hockey.

Andrew R. Thurm ’65 died on July 29 in Princeton, New Jersey, after a brief illness. Born in Manhattan, he came to Dartmouth from Scarsdale, New York, and returned to New York City for an M.B.A. from Columbia.
Alan R. Gibson ’65 died August 3 in Phoenix of complications from pneumonia. He came to Dartmouth from Mendham, New Jersey; a psychology major, he was a member of Phi Delta Alpha. Alan received a Ph.D.

Mark Birger Benson ’65 died on July 13 in Burlington, Vermont. “Birge” came to Dartmouth from Hanover. An anthropology major, he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and active in the Outing Club, Cabin & Trail, and Army ROTC.
Robert D. Blake ’65, a quintessential Dartmouth man, passed away in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, on December 22, 2023, from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.

George G. Martin ’65 died on April 25 in Minneapolis from the effects of Alzheimer’s. He came to Dartmouth from Detroit; an economics major, he was a member of Kappa Sigma and Dragon and played soccer all four years.
Damanhuri D. Alkaitis ’65 died on February 3 in Arnold, Maryland. He was born in Lithuania on August 7, 1944, while the family was escaping the Soviets during WWII.

Andrew C. Gundlach ’65 died on December 22, 2023, in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. He came to Dartmouth from Summit, New Jersey. A mathematics major, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and cheerleader captain.

William H. Herold ’65, M.D., died on October 20, 2023, in Akron, Ohio. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved with his adoptive parents to Colorado.
Ronald J. Mario ’65 died on July 20 in Arlington, Virginia. He came to Dartmouth from Keene, New Hampshire, and was an economics major. He began his career at the Prudential Insurance Co. of America in Boston.
Hugh B. Lade ’65 died on June 14 in Seattle from primary central nervous system lymphoma. He came to Dartmouth from Kirkland, Washington.

John F. Richardson ’65 died on February 25 in Somerset, New Jersey, from the effects of Parkinson’s disease. He came to Dartmouth from North Plainfield, New Jersey.
Robert E. Upton II ’65 died on March 10 in Bridgton, Maine. He came to Dartmouth from Concord (New Hampshire) High School; his father, two brothers, and several other family members were also alumni.
Martin E. Stackhouse ’65 died on February 28 in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He came to Dartmouth from Springfield (Massachusetts) Classical High School.
John H. Miller Jr. ’65 died on September 28, 2022, in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. He came to Dartmouth from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was a government major and a member of Tabard.
Paul “Mac” Jones ’65 passed away in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, December 22, 2022, after a brief illness. Mac came to Dartmouth from White Plains, New York.
Jack Heidbrink ’65 of Burlington, Massachusetts, died on February 17. He came to Dartmouth from New Trier High School in Wilmette, Illinois. At Dartmouth he was vice president of Beta Theta Pi and played football and ran track.
Byron D. Ford ’65 died April 3 in Fishers, Indiana. Originally from Minnesota, he also had a home in Scottsdale, Arizona. By came to Dartmouth from Ohio via Mercersburg Academy. He was a 3/2 student, receiving his A.B.
Lawrence A. Zalcman ’65 died May 31, 2022. He came to Dartmouth from Kansas City, Missouri, and was an honors math major. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968.

Gregg Hannah ’65 died of a heart attack on December 23, 2021, in Dewey Beach, Delaware. He came to Dartmouth from New Jersey, majored in art, and was active in the Dartmouth Outing Club and Army ROTC.

Mark Thomas Eldridge ’65 died of cancer in Burlington, Vermont, on December 27, 2021. He was born in Alaska long before it became the 49th state, a harbinger of a life led a little ahead of the times.

Rick Ian Suberman ’65, M.D., J.D., died June 25 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, after a protracted hospitalization. Rick came to Dartmouth from Raleigh, North Carolina.
Harry James Hofrichter ’65 passed away in his home in Adamstown, Maryland, on August 5. Jim came to Dartmouth from Madison, Connecticut. He was treasurer of Tau Epsilon Phi, sang in the Glee Club, and went on to obtain his Ph.D.
Robert Y. Justis Jr. ’65 died peacefully on May 3. Born in Joplin, Missouri, he grew up mainly in Vermont and came to Dartmouth from Stowe, Vermont, via Deerfield Academy.
Bruce T. Grimm ’65 died April 18 in Potomac, Maryland, of complications from melanoma. Bruce came to Dartmouth from Bethesda, Maryland.

William B. Van de Graff ’65, M.D., died December 26, 2020, after a long fight with heart failure and complications. He grew up in the Boston area.
John C. Shevlin ’65 of Palm Springs, California, passed away on February 7. John was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but spent most of his youth in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Edward D. Wynot Jr. ’65 of Tallahassee, Florida, died on August 12. Ed came to Dartmouth from Manchester, New Hampshire, and as an undergraduate played football, marched with the Army ROTC, and was a member of Sigma Epsilon.
Claude G. Liman ’65 of London, Ontario, died on September 5 as a result of being struck while bicycling near his home in London. “Rocky” came to Dartmouth from Pound Ridge, New York, by way of Deerfield Academy.

Woodhall “Sandy” Stopford ’65, M.D., a professor emeritus in community medicine and family health at Duke University, passed away on March 23 of multiple myeloma.

George Morrison Poland ’65 passed away February 1 at his home in West Kingston, Rhode Island. George grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and came to Dartmouth from Governor Dummer Academy and Gloucester High School.
Jeffrey North ’65 died on August 2, 2018. Jeff passed away in Falmouth, Massachusetts, surrounded by his family, including son Christopher and his wife, Aimee, and son Michael and his wife, Allison.

Brian Forrest Walsh ’65 died unexpectedly on July 3 during a bicycle ride along the New Hampshire seacoast. He had stopped at his favorite bench and was gazing at the sea during his final moments.
Thomas “Tod” Seel ’65 passed May 12 in Savannah, Georgia. Tod and his wife of 50 years, Megan, had moved to Savannah in 2016, leaving the waters Tod fished and waded and their beloved home in Moran, Wyoming, near Jackson Hole.
Joel “Ike” Eiserman ’65 lost his three-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease on April 29. He grew up in Lake Bluff, Illinois, and “came east” to attend Dartmouth.
Edward Peary Stafford Jr. ’65 died on November 11, 2017, from an intense and aggressive form of Lou Gehrig’s disease, the College recently learned. Ted was born into a distinguished Navy family, the first great-grandson of Adm.

Andrew Wells Lewis ’65 passed away on October 24, 2017. He was born in Savannah, Georgia. After graduating from Dartmouth he completed a master’s in history at the University of Chicago and received his Ph.D.
Arthur H. Rainey ’65 of Villanova, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at home December 17, 2017. Art came to Dartmouth from high school in Mansfield, Ohio. At Dartmouth he studied economics and was house manager of Tabard.
Daniel Kribbs Corbett ’65 died at his home in Juno Beach, Florida, on July 31, 2017, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease, his wife, Carmen, by his side. Dan’s life was one of exploration and opportunities taken.
Daniel B. Southard Jr. ’65 of Redding, Connecticut, died February 13 after a 12-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Dan grew up in Wilton, Connecticut, and came to Dartmouth from Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts.
Franklin Lee Arbuckle ’65 died June 22 in Billings, Montana. Young Lee nourished his lifelong hunger for knowledge at a one-room school near the family ranch in Billings.

Maxim Koslow ’65 passed away January 24. He came to Dartmouth from the Bronx and, after graduating Dartmouth, went on to receive his medical training at Howard University College of Medicine.

Gary Weltner ’65 passed away on November 21, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Barbara, son Morgan and daughters Katherine and Meredith. Gary had been in ill health for some time, his son Morgan reports.

Michael P. Merritt ’65 passed away June 28, 2015. Mike married Claire in 1978 and they started married life in Connecticut, moving to Hamilton Hollow Road in Sandgate, Vermont, many years ago.

Lawrence Halley Hunt ’65 died on April 27 in Evanston, Illinois. He was a committed member of the class of 1965, serving as class agent and regional agent for the Alumni Fund.
Douglas Christie Leach ’65 died on April 10 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine. A memorial service, attended by many classmates was held in Rollins Chapel on May 20.
