Frank M. Binder Jr. ’65
Frank M. Binder Jr. ’65 died in Mashpee, Massachusetts, on August 4 of Alzheimer’s disease. He came to Dartmouth from Leonia, New Jersey; as an undergraduate he was a government major, a member of Bones Gate, and participated in Navy ROTC. Upon graduation he joined the family jewelry business, Binder Brothers Inc., a leading manufacturer and wholesaler located in New York City. Frank married Sue Ann Fisher and they resided in Demarest, New Jersey, where they raised daughters Devon and Darcy. Frank and Sue divorced in 1980. Frank inherited a lifelong love for being on the water, quitting baseball in high school so he could spend more time on his parents’ boats. Years later Frank’s love of the water led him to purchase his first boat, the Andante. He became a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed passenger boat operator, earning the nickname “Fearless Captain.” Frank married Kerry Margaret McGuire in 1990 aboard Andante docked in Menemsha Harbor on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. They resided in Pleasantville, New York, until 1993, when they moved to the Vineyard. He continued his years of travel up and down the East Coast calling on jewelry store owners and customers who had over the years become lifelong friends. In 2021 Frank and Kerry left the Vineyard and moved to nearby Mashpee on Cape Cod. Frank is survived by Kerry, children Devon, Darcy and Derek; and grandchildren Aidan and Josie.
