Edwin E. McCook ’65
Edwin E. McCook ’65 passed away on September 16, 2021, due to complications of dementia. Ned came to Dartmouth from Chestnut Hill Academy in Pennsylvania; he was an economics major, a member of Alpha Theta, and sang in the Injunaires. Following graduation Ned enrolled in the Peace Corps and spent two years teaching in Tunisia, where he made many lifelong friends, including his future wife, Leslie. He taught mathematics at Chestnut Hill and Drexel University and loved working with early computers. He turned this love into a career as a software developer; at his last job he worked on location technology for cell phones making 911 calls. Ned enjoyed experiencing the world. He had a pilot’s license and a motorcycle license and was at his happiest on a boat. His true passion was music. With his beautiful baritone, perfected in the Injunaires, he enhanced his church choir and his singing group the Altar Egos. Later in life he joined the Philadelphia Singers. Ned retired in 2005 when Leslie was diagnosed with ALS. After she died, he traveled the country, often with his companion, Susan MacBride. In 2013 he moved into the continuing care facility Cathedral Village, transferring to the skilled nursing side in 2018 when dementia got the best of him. His daughter, Alison, was able to be with him at the end. He is survived by Susan, brother William, Alison, and granddaughter Cleo.
