Daniel Kribbs Corbett ’65

Daniel Kribbs Corbett ’65 died at his home in Juno Beach, Florida, on July 31, 2017, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease, his wife, Carmen, by his side. Dan’s life was one of exploration and opportunities taken. Dan was born in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania, on May 25, 1943. The family relocated to Gahanna, Ohio, where Dan attended Gahanna-Lincoln High School. He came to Dartmouth on scholarship. During his junior year he took to rugby, becoming captain, and met Carmen on a blind date. When he graduated in 1965 Dan joined the Coast Guard Reserves, then the U.S. Navy. He was awarded the Bronze Star (with Combat V) for service as skipper of a swift boat in Vietnam. After his service he and Carmen were married and settled in San Francisco. In 1971 they pooled savings and began a world tour that would last two and a half years and include parts of Africa, India, Japan, the U.S.S.R. and northern Europe. In 1979 Dan graduated from the University of Miami with a law degree and went into solo practice in Juno Beach. He was active in Dartmouth activities, serving as fundraiser, class officer, interviewer and advisor and in several regional posts for many years. He was an adjunct professor at Palm Beach State College, teaching American history and writing extensively. In 2003 he and Carmen began section hiking the Appalachian Trail during the summers. We will miss his inspiration, curiosity, service to Dartmouth and friendship.
