Joseph Dearborn Robinson IV ’65

Joseph Dearborn Robinson IV ’65 died on May 1 in Orlando, Florida. Robbie left his native Florida for Phillips Exeter Academy and then Hanover. He loved Dartmouth. He was a member of Chi Gamma Epsilon/Kappa Sigma and the DOC. He was also active in athletics, playing football and lacrosse and a member of the swimming and diving team. He made many friends for life among our classmates. One recounted how, as freshmen, Robbie had helped him take a 1951 Harley motorcycle to the top floor of Richardson Hall to leave black “donuts” on the hallway floor and escape without getting caught. After Dartmouth Robbie earned his M.B.A. at the University of Chicago and returned to the Orlando area after graduation to work in the family business, eventually serving as president of Laurel Homes Inc. He is survived by his wife, Anne, and their children Carolyn and Anne. He supported his community, serving on the board of trustees of the Orlando Museum of Art for 28 years. Robbie zealously supported the College. He was very active in the Dartmouth Club of Central Florida, where he was treasurer, career advisor and club president, among many other positions. He also served our class as a member of the reunion giving committee in 2002 and a leadership agent from 2005 until this year. He worked hard on the drive to raise funds to create the 1965 Galleries in Webster Hall, in what is now called the Rauner Special Collections Library, where a chair bears a plaque engraved with his name.
