Andrew R. Thurm ’65

Andrew R. Thurm ’65 died on July 29 in Princeton, New Jersey, after a brief illness. Born in Manhattan, he came to Dartmouth from Scarsdale, New York, and returned to New York City for an M.B.A. from Columbia. He worked at Exxon in the aviation fuel division and then at McGraw Hill for BusinessWeek magazine. He married Ann Thomson in 1969; they lived in New York City while they worked and saved money to take a two-year trip around the world. Andy and Ann started the trip staying with Natives on the Amazon and then proceeded through South America, many months in Africa, Christmas in Bethlehem, and a final year in Asia. Returning to New York, Andy opened Thurm Marketing and Consulting, which he ran until retirement. Although he enjoyed marketing and having his own business, his first love was music. Shortly after his retirement he became an accompanist for Stuart Country Day School and spent 10 happy years in the classroom and theater productions and accompanying individual students. He also used his musical skills in churches, and for Christmas he and Ann would host a carol party that people looked forward to all year. Andy was active in the Princeton Dartmouth Club. He was a generous donor to charitable causes, sponsoring children in need in developing countries for many years and always willing to help friends and family. He is survived by Ann, his wife of 55 years, and daughter London.
