Edward Peary Stafford Jr. ’65

Edward Peary Stafford Jr. ’65 died on November 11, 2017, from an intense and aggressive form of Lou Gehrig’s disease, the College recently learned. Ted was born into a distinguished Navy family, the first great-grandson of Adm. Robert E. Peary. Dartmouth ’65 claims Ted, as does the class of ’66. He came to Dartmouth from St. John’s Military Academy in Washington, D.C. While at Dartmouth he was a member of Kappa Sigma. Ted took an A.B. in history, then a commission in the Army, where he served for 26 years. His service included a tour in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for bravery. He received an M.B.A. from Marymount College while in the service. Ted and wife Rebecca settled in Marietta, Georgia. Ted retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel in June 1944. Ted and Rebecca raised children Josephine, Shepard, and Edward III. In recent years Ted was active in the Kennesaw University department of public safety, where he had many friends and admirers.
