Frank J. Hermes ’65

Frank J. Hermes ’65 died January 21 in Williamsburg, Virginia. “Sandy” came to Dartmouth, his father’s alma mater, from New Canaan, Connecticut. An economics major, he was a member of Tabard and Marching Band and went on to earn an M.B.A. from the Wharton School. Sandy then served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Eustis in Newport News, Virginia. He married Cindie, sister of Peter Holmes ’65, and began a successful career as a marketing executive, including stints at Citicorp and Standard & Poors. He enjoyed his postretirement consulting with Atlas Systems in Virginia Beach, Virgina. Outside of work, he coached his kids’ soccer and baseball teams with varying degrees of success, played tennis and paddleball with Cindie and friends, completed The New York Times crossword puzzle nearly every day, developed an appreciation for and knowledge about wine, and played golf (also with varying degrees of success). Frank and Cindie enjoyed traveling all over the world. In Williamsburg, Frank was a member of the Lions Club. His favorite activity in nearly every place he lived was singing in the church choir, most recently at the Bruton Parish Episcopal Church in Colonial Williamsburg. Sandy is survived by Cindie; son Jim ’91 and his wife, Lisa; daughter Liz and her husband, Kier; and grandsons Taylor, Jack, and Rocky.
