John Hopkinson Jr. ’39 of West Hartford, Connecticut, died on January 8. Born on September 12, 1916, he was raised in Farmington, Connecticut. He graduated from Dartmouth and then earned his M.B.A. from Tuck in 1941.
William John Conway Sr. ’39, who founded DialAmerica Marketing, died on March 12, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia, son William Jr. and brother Robert.
John Litchfield ’39 died in Denver on June 10, 2011. Some said John “was probably born with skis on his feet,” as he was skiing at age 7 and competing in ski jumping by the time he was 14.
Moreton John Ensor ’39 of Orleans, Massachusetts, died March 24. At Dartmouth Mort joined Chi Phi and went on to Tuck School.
Charles Robert Obermeyer ’39, a resident of Kent County, Virginia, died October 17, 2010. Chuck was with us at Dartmouth for just our freshman year, and we do not have much information about his life. He joined the U.S.
Wayland Avery Jr.’39 died April 27 at his home in San Clemente, California. At Dartmouth “Ave” majored in economics and went on to Tuck School, earning his M.B.A. in 1941.
William Adams Russell ’39 died March 2 at his home in Francestown, New Hampshire. Bill did his secondary school at Suffield (Connecticut) Academy.
Alexander Warren Lansberg ’39 of South Chatham, Massachusetts, and Sarasota, Florida, died March 24. At Dartmouth Alex was business manager and saxophonist of the Green Collegians dance band and also played in the Marching Band.
Robert McCue Hall ’39, M.D., died January 28 in Raleigh, North Carolina. At Dartmouth he majored in chemistry-zoology and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and Zeta Alpha Phi scientific fraternity. Bob earned his M.D.
Morris Jacob Seligman ’39, M.D., died January 20 at the Maine General Medical Center in Augusta. Morris graduated from Dartmouth Phi Beta Kappa, went on to the Medical School and earned his M.D.
James Oliver Corner ’39 died November 15, 2010, at Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, Delaware. Jim graduated from Dartmouth summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, having majored in chemistry. In 1942 he earned his Ph.D.
Colby Adams Cogswell ’39 died November 11, 2009, in Orinda, California. At Dartmouth Colby was a member of Theta Chi and The Players and went on to Tuck School.
Baxter Carpenter Prescott ’39 died April 16 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center exactly one month before his 93rd birthday.
William Wolf Goodman ’39 died February 21 in Danbury, Connecticut. At Dartmouth Bill majored in sociology and was a member of the Forensic Union and The Players. During WW II he served in the U.S.
Kenneth Lamson Ritchie ’39 died February 1 in Concord, Massachusetts. At Dartmouth Ken majored in international relations and was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.
Harrington Kenneth Gates ’39 died January 4 at Lancaster County Hospice in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. He and his wife, June, resided in Drumore, Pennsylvania.
John Nicholas Davenport ’39 died September 16, 2009, in Cleveland, Ohio. At Dartmouth John majored in psychology and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi.
Leonard James Vines ’39 of Orinda, California, died September 28, 2009. At Dartmouth Len majored in English and was a member of Psi Upsilon, Green Key, Dragon and the football squad.
George Russell Hanna ’39 died September 16, 2009, at Langdon Place in Keene, New Hampshire.
