John Hopkinson Jr. ’39

John Hopkinson Jr. ’39 of West Hartford, Connecticut, died on January 8. Born on September 12, 1916, he was raised in Farmington, Connecticut. He graduated from Dartmouth and then earned his M.B.A. from Tuck in 1941. He went to work for the Hartford Electric Light Co. and then Northeast Utilities, retiring in 1980 after 39 years of service. During World War II he was inducted into the Army as a private and, after three years of service, was discharged as a captain. During this period he spent most of the time in Italy, where he received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and a Combat Infantry Badge. He is survived by his wife, Albina; son John III and his wife, Patti; son David ’68 and his wife, Ruth; son Mark and his wife, Caitlin; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. John was a past member of the Avon Country Club and a current member of the First Church of Christ in West Hartford, the Old Guard of West Hartford and the Farmington Historical Society.
