Kenneth Lamson Ritchie ’39

Kenneth Lamson Ritchie ’39 died February 1 in Concord, Massachusetts. At Dartmouth Ken majored in international relations and was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Ken’s entire 39-year business career was spent with the Haartz Auto Fabric Co., the family company of classmate John C. Haartz Jr. ’39, who was also Ken’s brother-in-law. He was general manager of the company until John’s death in 1976, when Ken took over as president and chief executive officer. Ken retired from active management in 1986 but continued as chairman of the board of Haartz Corp. and advisor to his nephew Cole Haartz, the new company president and CEO. In retirement Ken enjoyed his hobbies of skiing, golf and travel. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Harriett, daughter Rebecca, son Duncan, sister Beatrice (John’s widow) and three grandchildren.
