Charles Robert Obermeyer ’39

Charles Robert Obermeyer ’39, a resident of Kent County, Virginia, died October 17, 2010. Chuck was with us at Dartmouth for just our freshman year, and we do not have much information about his life. He joined the U.S. Army on December 8, 1941, and served in the European and Pacific theaters during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Bronze Star and Purple Heart decorations. After the war Chuck remained in the Army and served in duty assignments in both this country and abroad. He retired as a lieutenant colonel. Chuck was known for his love of skeet shooting and model railroading. After retirement from the Army he and son Frederick operated Obies Trains model railroad store in Alexandria, Virginia, for many years. He was predeceased by his wife, Angela, as well as two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his sons Charles II, William, Robert, Edward and Frederick, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
