Class of 1971
Class Notes
View All Notes for Class of 1971Our October 4-6 gathering in Hanover was a resounding success. In gloriously warm fall weather, 30 classmates and spouses enjoyed the many highlights.
We began Friday afternoon with a stirring tribute to Coach Buddy Teevens ’79 at the renaming of the Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field. President Sian Beilock, Buddy’s wife, Kirsten, and linebacker Micah Green ’25 delivered wonderful tributes to Buddy and the life he led. Tom Oxman and his wife, Judy, then hosted a scrumptious dinner at their beautiful home. We were pleased that Andy Harvard’s widow, Kathy, was able to join us that evening.
Saturday morning began with an Alzheimer’s walk organized by Kathy Harvard, including Team Andy, followed by the Big Green football team’s triumph over Penn. Despite 109 yards of penalties, many leading directly to Penn points, the Big Green stood tough in the second half and squeaked out a win that did not seem as close as the 20-17 score. That evening Steve and Nancy Hoverman were brave enough to invite us to their new finished home, located within walking distance of the stadium. Thanks to John Hanley, our group was joined by two Kenyan students—our Dickey intern Nellie Mwanyalo ’27 and her friend Michelle Ngare ’27. There followed many great discussions and new learning. Before dinner, hors d’oeuvres were presented and our vintner Kathy Rines again worked her magic with selections from the class cellar! We bid adieu to most after a great evening of dining, libations, and fellowship.
But that’s not all! With help from Mickey Stuart, the Dartmouth Film Society honored Malcolm McDowell with a Lifetime Achievement Award. That celebration included a screening of Clockwork Orange, a Q&A, a reception with the actor, and a documentary feature he made honoring one of the directors he had worked with. This last film gave us insight to his performance on stage in addition to the big screen! It was good to see Darrell Hotchkiss and Jon Fox there.
I regret to inform our class of the passing of R. Bruce Tepper Jr., on September 17, 2024. An obituary will appear online in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.
