Hi, ’18s!

I hope you are all well. I am writing this column deep in the snows of February with the hopes that when you all read this column, we will be enjoying plenty of sunshine and beautiful May flowers!

I had the great fortune recently of spending some time with Sebastian Turner and his wonderful partner, Aisling O’Leary. Sebastian and Aisling told me all about another Class Notes columnist who had brought so much joy to them and undoubtedly many other members of the Dartmouth community and beyond. We wanted to use this column as an opportunity to express our gratitude for the class of 1943 Notes column, written by George Shimizu ’43, and to take a moment to acknowledge George’s passing. His column was a true joy to read—each issue, he shared a memory from his 103 years of life. From telling stories about rooming with his friend Nobu in Mid Mass, to describing Winter Carnival in 1940, he brought the Dartmouth of the 1940s to life. His stories about World War II provided a fascinating, heartfelt insight into what it was like to serve, particularly as a Japanese American. And his recounting of the day he reunited with his wife, Mary, after his service is not to be missed. Thank you for the column, George, and heartfelt condolences to his family. Anyone interested can see his past columns here: https://dartmouthalumnimagazine.com/class-notes/1943/all. We hope you all can find as much joy and inspiration in George’s column as we have.

We also have some exciting classmate news to share! This winter Nadine Swenberg launched her new consulting practice, Nadine Helps! Nadine works with small service businesses to build systems that support their growth, bringing her experience from startups, community organizations, and applied data science to help them scale with confidence. Based in Silicon Valley (with virtual options available), Nadine helps service professionals transform operational challenges into structured processes that work. She would love to reconnect with classmates! Reach out at support@nadinehelps.com or find her on LinkedIn. Congratulations, Nadine, and best of luck on this exciting new venture!

Wishing everyone well. Until next time!
