1932 | Lake Placid, New York
Speed skater Jack “The Chief” Shea ’34 becomes the first  American to win two gold medals in one Winter Olympics in front of a hometown crowd. They’re the first of 15 gold medals won by Dartmouth students or graduates at the Winter Games.

1952 | Oslo, Norway
Richard Desmond ’43, Arnold C. Oss Jr. ’50, and Clifford Harrison ’51 help the U.S. men’s hockey team play mighty Canada to a tie, assuring the Americans of a silver medal. A Moscow newspaper falsely charges the game was fixed to keep a communist nation from getting the silver.

1998 | Nagano, Japan
Sarah Tueting ’98 and Gretchen (Ulion) Silverman ’94 lead the United States to an upset victory over Canada in the first-ever women’s Olympic hockey gold medal game. Silverman scores the first goal while Tueting stops all but one shot in the historic  game. 

2006 | Turin, Italy
Dartmouth athletes collect five Olympic medals—the College’s most ever in a Winter Games—four for women’s hockey. Cherie Piper ’06 and Gillian Apps ’06, Tu’19, help lead the Canadian women’s hockey team to a gold. 

2010 | Vancouver, Canada
Hannah Kearney ’15, a Norwich, Vermont, native who had been skiing since age 2, wins gold in the women’s mogul competition, one of four medals won by Dartmouth athletes. Piper and Apps repeat gold with the Canadian women’s hockey team.

2014 | Sochi, Russia
Apps wins her third gold medal as the Canadian women’s hockey team triumphs again. Skiers Kearney (bronze) and Andrew Weibrecht ’09 (silver) each collect their second Olympic medal. 

2018 | Pyeonchang, South Korea
A record 15 Dartmouth athletes qualify for the Winter Olympics, including cross-country skier Tucker Murphy ’04, representing Bermuda, an island that has never seen snow. Laura Stacey ’16 collects a silver medal with the Canadian women’s hockey team. She would win gold four years later.
