Christopher “Kip” Hall ’76

Christopher “Kip” Hall ’76 passed away on October 23, 2017. Kip arrived at Dartmouth by way of the Pingry School and Summit, New Jersey. Our class Rhodes scholar, Kip was a force of nature: energetic, talented, focused, smart and, as his Bones Gate brothers would attest, funny. Although he aced his premed courses at Dartmouth, he ultimately became an English major and could often be seen in Sanborn. He was a member of the Dartmouth ski team and continued his lifelong love of skiing by racing on the Masters circuit and coaching all ages of skiers while litigating major cases during his career at two major law firms and as CEO and executive vice president of a Wall Street broker-dealer. Additionally, while at Oxford, he served in the U.S. State Department and in the U.S. Information Service. After Oxford Kip graduated from the University of Chicago Law School. An avid blue-water sailboat racer, Kip raced in the U.S. Nationals and the Grand Prix, including the Bermuda Race. He also found the time to teach at the University of Connecticut Law School; serve as a selectman in Darien, Connecticut (2014-15); co-chair the Commission on Connecticut’s Leadership in Corporation and Business Law (2014-16); and serve on boards of directors of publicly and privately held companies. Kip devoted himself to, and is survived by, his wife and high school sweetheart, Britt, son Justin (“J.J.”) and daughter Victoria (“Tori”).
