Three alumni, a family of alumni and a student organization have earned Dartmouth’s 2013 Martin Luther King Social Justice Awards for their contributions to peace, civil rights, education, public health or social justice. Karen Lewis ’74 received the Lester B. Granger ’18 Award for Lifetime Achievement; the Barnet family—including the late William ’34 and his children William ’64, Tu’65, and Laurence ’68—have received the Lifetime Achievement Award; Joseph O’Donnell, DMS’71, received the Holly Fell Sateia Award; Steven Cosson ’90 received the Ongoing Commitment Award; and the Dartmouth Graduate Veterans Association earned the Student Organization Award. To read their full citations, click on www.dartmouth.edu/~mlk/awards.

Producer Lisa Densmore ’83, a former member of the Dartmouth ski team, has earned the annual International Ski History Association Film Award for her contribution to the historical record of skiing with her film about Dartmouth and its role in the development of skiing, Passion for Snow. The documentary is based on the book, Passion for Skiing, by Stephen Waterhouse ’65, the film’s executive producer.

George Strander ’84, the court administrator and probate register for Ingham County (Michigan) Probate Court, has been named to the Michigan Mental Health Diversion Council by Gov. Rick Snyder. Strander will help develop methods for diverting individuals with mental illness and substance use problems from the criminal justice system to appropriate treatment.

Lisa Stockmon ’84 has been named executive vice president and chief marketing officer of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, based in White Plains, New York. Before joining the society in 2012, Stockmon was the managing director of Time Inc. Content Solutions.

Fordham von Reyn ’67, DMS’69, a professor of medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease for creating a vaccine—DAR-901—that reduces tuberculosis in HIV patients. Approximately 25 percent of deaths among people with HIV are caused by tuberculosis, the World Health Organization reports.

The Rev. Nancy Vogele ’85 is the new director of religious and spiritual life at Dartmouth’s Tucker Foundation. Vogele, who has served for almost 20 years in Episcopal parish ministry, will coordinate the 25 groups of the United Campus Ministers and work with Tucker’s various faith and service activities.

Tim Greenberg ’92 of New York City has earned a George Foster Peabody Award and a Television Academy Award for the Comedy Central special, D.L. Hughley: The Endangered List. Greenberg produced, wrote and directed the satirical documentary, in which Hughley sets out to try to add “the black man” to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Endangered Species list.

Vanessa Threatte ’00 has been appointed executive director of the new State University of New York Cradle to Career Strategic Alliance, which will serve as a central support system for career networks statewide. Threatte was most recently the founding principal of the Brighter Choice Charter Middle School for Girls in Albany, New York.

Mike Sinnott ’07 is the new U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association SuperTour champion, earning the title during the final race of the 2012-13 season at Royal Gorge, California. Sinnott, a former ski team captain at Dartmouth, will next begin training for the International Ski Federation World Cup and the 2014 Winter Olympics.
