William Withington Rooke ’52
William Withington Rooke ’52 of Paradise Valley, Arizona, passed away on July 31. Will was born October 10, 1930, in Westfield, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Culver (Indiana) Military Academy in 1948. He graduated from Dartmouth 1952 with a history degree. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi and Sphinx senior society. He then served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for three years before enrolling in the Tuck School, graduating with an M.B.A. in 1956. Following family tradition, Will joined Merrill Lynch in 1956 and became a member of the New York Stock Exchange in 1959. Will and his wife, Anastasia “Stace,” lived in Green Village and Morris Township, New Jersey, and retired to Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2002. Stace passed away in 2007 after 55 years of marriage. Will spent 30 years as a trustee of Morristown (New Jersey) Memorial Hospital, including five years as chairman of the board. Will became involved with HonorHealth Thompson Peak Hospital in Scottsdale as a philanthropist and a volunteer. A man of many interests, Will was a yachtsman, private pilot, fisherman, bird hunter, skier, photographer and golf and tennis player. He was also an active Dartmouth alumnus. Will married Glady Green in 2010. She survives him, as do sons John, Andrew ’79, Cameron and Timothy and their families, including nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His brother, Robert ’49 also survives him. Son William died in 2009.
