William Weber Stanton Jr. ’65

William Weber Stanton Jr. ’65 passed away on November 1, 2018, after a brief illness. He practiced general surgery in Long Beach, California, for 32 years. Bill graduated high school in Long Beach. He was a Phi Psi at Dartmouth and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in biology. He earned his M.D. from University of California, San Francisco and served two years in the Army Medical Corps. He and wife Mary returned to his hometown to join his father at Obispo Medical Clinic, where he became the third generation of Dr. Stantons in Long Beach. Mary notes that Bill often spoke of the excellent education he received at Dartmouth. Mary and Bill were married for 52 years. He leaves children Laura and Jack and their spouses; grandchildren Taylor, Wyatt, Lily and Chase; cousin John; and golden retriever Zack. Bill loved the White Mountains of Arizona, the Sunlight Basin of Wyoming, sailing to Catalina as well as the many travels to the four corners of the world. He delighted in sharing his love of history with the family, especially the little-known facts to make a castle or battlefield come alive. Bill was also passionate about the daily crosswords and a good game of bridge.
