William T. Goulburn ’51, DMS’52

William T. Goulburn ’51, DMS’52, M.D., who lived in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, and was a longtime orthopedic surgeon in western New Jersey, died on March 19. Bill was an active member of a tight-knit group of ’51 classmates who spent their senior year and one additional year at the Dartmouth Medical School. He completed his training at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. While at Dartmouth he was a member of the varsity swimming team as well as Chi Phi and Alpha Kappa Kappa. He chaired his DMS alumni fund for many years. After completing service in the U.S. Navy and a residency at Hartford Hospital, Bill spent eight years practicing obstetrics with his uncle, delivering 500 babies. He then completed a second residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate Hospital and practiced that specialty for more than 30 years at the West Jersey Hospital. He served as president of the South Jersey Orthopedic Association. Bill loved the New Jersey shore. He was active in his community as a church elder and a member of the board of directors of the YMCA camp. He enjoyed skiing, traveling, and collecting antique cars and toys. He is survived by his wife, Marie, four sons, and five grandchildren.
