William M. Higgins ’66
William M. Higgins ’66, former class president and recipient of a coveted Dartmouth Alumni Award in 2006, passed away in Cincinnati January 28 after a long battle with lung disease. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Bill came to Dartmouth from Oakwood High School. He was rush chairman of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and a member of the Dragon, played freshman tennis and squash, and earned his M.B.A. from Tuck in 1968. Bill went on to provide extraordinary service to the class and Dartmouth, serving as alumni interviewer, class agent, treasurer for 10 years, and then vice president and copresident of the class. Following his six years in Hanover, Bill settled in Cincinnati to work for fund management firm Scudder, Stevens & Clark; then Bank Ohio; and Sena, Weller, Rohs, Williams, a financial advisory firm in Cincinnati. A leader in many community and civic organizations, Bill served on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati, United Home Care/Visiting Nurse Association of Cincinnati, and Madeira/Indian Hill joint fire board and was active in the Indian Hill Church. He loved sports and watching his grandchildren compete and was passionate about duplicate bridge, accumulating more than 13,000 Master points to become a Grand Life Master. Bill married Jane Thiele, who he started dating in seventh grade, while he was at Tuck in 1967. He is survived by Jane; daughter Molly ’91 and her husband, Richard Aube ’91; son Mark and wife Margaux; and six grandchildren, including Claire ’23 and William ’25. He was predeceased by son John ’96.
