William H. Wooley ’63

William H. Wooley ’63 died on November 5, 2023, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey. He was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, and was a lifelong resident of the Jersey shore. He graduated from Long Branch High School, where he participated in basketball, track, and cross country and was an Eagle Scout in Troop 39, attending national and international Scout Jamborees. At Dartmouth Bill majored in history and worked as program director with WDCR. He received an M.S. in marketing from New York University in 1964. He had a long career in menswear; for many years he was a principal of W.H. Wooley, a family-owned clothing store that was a mainstay in downtown Long Branch for 80 years. His career also included posts with Brooks Brothers’ flagship on Madison Avenue in N.Y.C. and M. Epstein in Princeton, New Jersey. He was a member of the National Association of Men’s Sportswear Buyers in N.Y.C. A quintessential haberdasher, he was fond of packet silks, shirts, and three-button jackets. His lifetime of service to Monmouth County included membership in the 200 Club of Monmouth County as well as being named an honorary life member of the Long Branch Chamber of Commerce. Bill was predeceased by his former wife, Judith, and daughter Catherine. He is survived by a second daughter, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
