William E. Fitzharris Jr. ’73
William E. Fitzharris Jr. ’73 died on October 2, 2022. Bill came to Dartmouth from Kings Park (New York) High School . He lived in South Fayerweather Hall and majored in mathematics. Bill played football and lacrosse and enjoyed outdoor activities with the Dartmouth Outing Club. He was also a member of the Tucker Fellowship. Bill received a law degree at Boston University School of Law, where he met his future wife, Marsha Pechman. In May 1976 Bill and Marsha married, graduated from law school, and moved to their first legal jobs in Seattle. He began as an attorney working for Legal Aid Services and eventually retired from the law firm of Preg O’Donnell & Gillett in Seattle. Bill was his firm’s ethics advisor and handled complex litigation cases in Washington and in Oregon. He was a mentor to younger attorneys in his firm in developing their professional skill and judgment. Bill also served as a King County (Washington) bar association arbitrator in disputes between lawyers and clients. He was actively engaged in his daughters’ youth sports activities, managing Colleen’s swim club, coaching Ellen’s recreation league soccer team, and umpiring Little League baseball games for many years, even after his daughters had aged out. Bill is survived by Marsha, his two daughters, and six siblings.
