Walter Webster Topham ’59

Walter Webster Topham ’59 died on February 20. He entered Dartmouth from Mount Herman School, majored in English, and was a member of Alpha Theta. Following graduation he went to Navy officer candidate school and served for almost three years as a communications officer aboard the carrier Wasp. He then earned a degree from the Bentley School of Accounting and Finance, became a certified public accountant in Massachusetts in 1967, and began his career in accounting with Haskins & Sells. In 1973 Walter, together with two partners, established an accounting firm that became Topham, Fardy & Co., a leading accounting firm in the Andover-Lawrence, Massachusetts, area. He served as a board member of First Essex Bank and the Lawrence General Hospital and was active in several charitable organizations. He was an avid golfer. Walter is survived by Patricia, his wife of more than 57 years; son David and his wife; daughters Kris and Leslie; four grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia.
