Walter K. Prindle ’57

Walter K. Prindle ’57 passed away on May 3 in Plano, Texas. Walt graduated from Sequoia High School in San Carlos, California. At Dartmouth he majored in English and was a Daniel Webster scholar in literature. Walt was a Tri Kap and its treasurer. He was a member of the Dartmouth Outing Club all four years and was on the Winter Carnival committee and the ski patrol. He graduated from Tuck School in 1958. Walt was part of the N.R.O.T.C program, serving two years in the Navy on the aircraft carrier Ticonderoga before being discharged as a lieutenant, j.g., in 1960. Walt worked in retailing for various divisions of Federated Department Stores from 1960 until 1983, when he bought Southern Textiles in Dallas. He was owner and CEO until 2002. During his retail career he was one of the foremost experts in the manufacturing and sale of imported dry goods. He retired to a lake community east of Dallas, where he volunteered with SCORE and was on the library board. He served the College as Alumni Fund volunteer and class agent. Walt was predeceased by his first wife, Noreen, the mother of two sons and a daughter, who survive him. He was the loving husband for 22 years of his second wife, Patricia, who also survives him with two stepsons and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
