W. Robert Wilson Jr. ’57

W. Robert Wilson Jr. ’57 died on August 23. Bob graduated from William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. At Dartmouth he was on the staff of the Dart humor magazine all four years (editor his senior year) and belonged to the Dartmouth Christian Union, the Dartmouth Outing Club, and the Dartmouth Folk Singers. In 1965 he earned an M.A. in communications from San Francisco University. Bob began his work in the San Francisco Bay Area in advertising and marketing, at Hoefer, Dieterich, & Brown (1966-77) and Lynch & Rockey Advertising (1977-81), then went into healthcare at Nieco division of NPI (1981-85). His life was one of deadlines, production schedules, and monthly sales reports. In mid-career he found greater satisfaction in community involvement. He coached Little League baseball and was Little League president. On his office wall he kept a framed note: “Thank you for helping me in baseball. We had fun. Johnny.” Bob also coached youth soccer. He was a regent at Cogswell College, a polytechnic school in San Jose, California. He became immersed in live theater, joining Ros Valley Players. In 2007 he taught a well-remembered Down East accent to California actors while directing a production of Our Town. Additional hobbies were trapshooting, golf, and racquetball. He served as a class agent for the Dartmouth Alumni Fund. Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy, and sons Andrew and Benjamin.
