Thomas Souza ’76

Thomas Souza ’76 passed away surrounded by family on May 18. Tom grew up in Mansfield, Massachusetts, where several of his siblings still live. He was a proud graduate of Mansfield High School, Dartmouth College, and Brown University, where he earned an M.A. in 1977. Tom was a modern-day renaissance man with many passions, the greatest of which was travel. As a travel executive, he experienced the world, deepening his insatiable knowledge of music, literature, sports, art, film, and cuisine. His favorite destination was closer to home: his Cape Cod, Massachusetts, deck surrounded by family and friends. His Dartmouth classmates reveled in his humor, warmth, and clever writing, electing him historian to address them on Class Day. Close friend and fraternity brother Mike Brait ’76 said, “I was blessed with the literary genius of Tom’s storytelling as he chronicled our Dartmouth years in the Beta minutes. His balance of wit, knowledge, and charm combined with a unique and often poetic delivery style made any story he told a great treasure.” Sara Hoagland Hunter ’76 adds, “His writing was so clever and funny. I was cast in a winning play he wrote for the interfraternity play contest in which I played the unfortunate Stella Mozzarella. Not sure I ever lived down that role, but our lifelong friendship and laughter were more than worth it.” Tom’s greatest treasure was his family: Sylvie, his wife of 34 years, and children Allie and Kyle.
