Terence Stitt Malone ’52

Terence Stitt Malone ’52 died at home in Bellaire, Michigan, on September 15, 2021, of prostate cancer. He was born in Cincinnati on February 15, 1930, and graduated from Maine High School in Park Ridge, Illinois, and from Dartmouth. He was a Tuck major, receiving his M.B.A. in 1953. Terry was a member of Beta Theta Pi, Casque & Gauntlet, Green Key, and the rowing team. He was in the Navy ROTC program and spent three years as an officer in the U.S. Navy before starting his business career with S.C. Johnson in Racine, Wisconsin. He spent several years as budget manager, information technology systems manager, vice president of marketing and corporate strategic planning, and later as an international executive VP. His last assignment was as president and CEO of Johnson Outdoors, a group of recreational product companies. He was also active in civic and conservation affairs throughout his life and was a committed Dartmouth alumnus. Terry met his future wife, Sally, while in the Navy, and they married in late 1955. They had children Dennis, Kathleen, and Kevin, who survive Terry with their spouses, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Sally passed away in mid 2015. Following Terry’s retirement in 1994, they built a year-round house on the Torch Lake, Michigan, family compound and had 20 wonderful years together. Terry had a great run during his life with a closely knit family, a successful business career, and as a civic leader and active outdoorsman.
