Steven Gosford Kuhrtz ’67

Steven Gosford Kuhrtz ’67 passed away on December 11, 2024, in East Dennis, Massachusetts, following a long illness. Steve came to the College from Silver Spring, Maryland, majored in chemistry, was a brother of Theta Delta Chi, sang in the Glee Club, and played rugby. After graduation Steve enlisted in the U.S. Army, completed training at Fort Bragg, and earned his Green Beret in the Army Special Forces. Upon completion of his service he worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State of New Jersey on clean air projects. Steve married Mary McCartney in 1977, and in 1986 began work in the private sector, initially for Cabot Corp. in Boston and Waltham, Massachusetts, followed by the GATX Corp. in Chicago in 1991 as executive vice president of environmental safety and government affairs. In 2001 he and Mary returned to Cape Cod and purchased and operated a franchise of The Maids, which they ran successfully before selling it in 2023. Steve loved performing with the Chatham Chorale across Cape Cod and coleading the traditional annual Quivet Neck Lu-Kow Tournament on Sea Street Beach in East Dennis each Labor Day Weekend. Steve is survived by Mary; son Bradford and his wife, Devon; and grandchildren Catherine and William.
