Steven Douglas Golladay ’68

Steven Douglas Golladay ’68 of Hopewell Junction, New York, died on December 9, 2019, of Lewy body dementia, which was diagnosed only four weeks before his passing. Steve’s health and intellectual acuity had kept him highly active until shortly before his death. Steve came to Hanover as a cum laude graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Virginia, and a National Merit finalist. At Dartmouth Steve participated in the Dartmouth Outing Club, Yachting Club, and Canoe Club. He was a member of Kappa Sigma. Steve earned an A.B. in physics and then did Army service, including a tour in Vietnam, before continuing his physics studies and acquiring an M.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. He worked in microelectronics research and design at IBM and was credited with 23 patents before retiring from that company to become lead designer for Nuflare Technology, a Japanese business in the semiconductor industry. Steve loved outdoor activities. He was a bicyclist, hiker, skier, and, most enthusiastically, birder. He traveled the world photographing various species of birds, and he enjoyed sharing his brilliant photos with his many friends and family members. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lucy.
