Stephen Hopkins Fast ’54

Stephen Hopkins Fast ’54 of Pacific Palisades, California, passed away on January 15 after a long illness. Steve came to Dartmouth from Kalamazoo (Michigan) State High School, where he was cocaptain of the tennis team. He majored in history; was a member of the Air Force ROTC, Psi Upsilon, and Dragon; and competed on the varsity tennis team. He continued to the University of Michigan, where he earned an M.B.A. He entered the Air Force, serving for two years and meeting his future wife, Kathleen Luscious. They married in 1957 and moved to Chicago, where Steve entered the investment banking business. In 1972 Steve’s career advancement moved Steve and Kathleen to Los Angeles. Their family expanded with the arrival of two children. They eventually settled in Pacific Palisades, where they lived for more than 40 years. A loyal alumnus, Steve served as Alumni Fund class agent, alumni councilor and member of its enrollment and admissions committee, club secretary, and admissions interviewer. Steve retired after a 40-year career at Wells Fargo. It was an opportunity for Steve and Kathleen to travel, which they did extensively throughout the world. Steve was predeceased by Kathleen and sister Marty. He is survived by brother Phillip ’53, sons Stephen and Patrick and their wives, and three grandchildren.
