Stephen Gregory Kovach ’79

Stephen Gregory Kovach ’79 died on December 4, 2018, at his home in Fort Pierce, Florida. Steve was raised and attended high school in Ashland, Kentucky. He roomed in Smith Hall freshman year and played on the freshman basketball team with dormmates Craig Enright ’79, Channing Lushbough ’79, and Blaine McBurney ’79. “All four of them were 6-6 or bigger,” says Bob Gruendel ’79, “so Smith Hall was an imposing place!” Steve was a member of the Harold Parmington Foundation (HPF). Dave Zakin ’79, an HPF brother, remembers Steve as “a large, playful guy with a big heart.” Adds fellow HPFer Rich Pender ’79, “Steve was a gentle giant and a friend to all.” Steve decided to become a chiropractor early in our sophomore year and left Hanover to obtain his doctor of chiropractic medicine degree. He practiced in that field for his entire career. At the time of our 25th reunion, Steve was working in Mooresville, North Carolina, and later moved to Florida. Steve is survived by his wife, Carol Cochran Kovach, who he met in high school and married in 2016, and children Megan, Stephen, and Kristen by his ex-wife, Susan.
