Stephen Bennett Kardon ’63

Stephen Bennett Kardon ’63, a diagnostic radiologist of Scarsdale, New York, died of cancer January 12. Steve majored in life science and was a brother Delta Kappa Epsilon. He graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1967. Following internship and residency he served as major in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps. Steve practiced in White Plains, New York, from 1973 to 1981 and moved to New York Medical College from 1981 through 1999 while serving as chief of radiology at its affiliate, Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, New York, for five years. He continued to practice radiology at Lincoln. Steve’s first wife, Nataline, a physician and medical school classmate, died of cancer. The couple has three children. In 2009 Steve married Ellen Sulkin, an American he had met on a trip to France when he was a Dartmouth student in 1960. Their relationship was described in the “Vows” section of The New York Times. Steve served as fraternity agent from 1992 through 2001 and in 2012 and as leadership agent in 2001-02. Dartmouth relatives include brother Peter ’70 and nephews Isaac ’05, Samuel ’03 and Joseph ’09. Steve liked golf, tennis, swimming and cycling. An avid reader, he also enjoyed The Great Courses, a series of college-level audio and video courses produced by the Teaching Co. In addition to Ellen and Peter, Steve is survived by his mother, Annette, sons David, Brian and Aaron, sister Nancy, brother James and 10 grandchildren.
