Sidney G. Starobin ’57

Sidney G. Starobin ’57 died peacefully at his home on July 26. Sid graduated from Worcester (Massachusetts) Honor High School. He majored in biology and received his M.D. from Tufts Medical School in 1960. He completed his pediatric residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, then served a two-year tour of duty as an Army physician at Fort Hood in Texas. Returning to Massachusetts, he cofounded Holliston Pediatric Group and spent the next 36 years growing his practice and caring for children and families. He was instrumental in clinical trials that led to treatments for infections of the middle ear that are common in children. He was affiliated with Boston University Medical School. In retirement he enjoyed working with medical residents and teaching BU medical students. In 1974 Sid and his wife, Evelyn, were among the founding members of Congregation B’nai Torah in Sudbury, Massachusetts. He helped lead Torah services in the congregation’s early years. Sid was an avid baker (especially coffee cake for his students), brewer (making his own micro brews and hard root beer), and lover of animals (rarely without a dog by his side). He enjoyed observing visitors to his backyard feeder at his summer home in Mashpee, Massachusetts. He liked nothing better than to be among his mishpachah, his large, loud, loving family. He reveled in his 12 grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. Sid is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 63 years, and daughters Amy, Jean, Lisa, and Suzanne.
