Sherman Bendalin ’63

Sherman Bendalin ’63 died on January 27 and was buried in Beth Israel Cemetery in his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Sherm attended North Phoenix High, where he was a representative at Boys State. At Dartmouth he majored in economics, rowed crew, and was in the Army ROTC and a brother of Tau Epsilon Phi. After graduation he was an active volunteer with the Alumni Fund, admissions office, and as an officer of his local Dartmouth club for many years. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after graduation and received a J.D. at the University of Arizona in 1969. Sherm practiced law in Phoenix as president of Sherman R. Bendalin, P.C., from 1982 until he transitioned to “of counsel” in 2014. His practice focused on representing claimants before the Social Security Administration. He always had an interest in mental health and served on the board and as president of the Phoenix South Community Mental Health Center. He was president of Temple Beth Israel from 1987 to 1989 and was a member of American Hebrew Congregations board of trustees from 1996 to 1999. His wife, Evey, and daughter, Karrie, survive him.
