Senior Justice Department official is at the center of legal fallout from President Trump's immigration crackdown.

Assistant attorney general Harmeet Dhillon ’89 is at the center of the legal fallout from President Trump’s immigration crackdown in Minneapolis. After a public outcry over the death of Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE agents, her office opened a civil rights investigation. The Justice Department has so far declined to investigate the fatal shooting of Reńee Nicole Good, also by ICE agents. Meanwhile, Dhillon is pursuing criminal charges against former CNN anchor Don Lemon for his presence at a protest against ICE that disrupted services in a Minnesota church.
Dhillon’s role has attracted criticism. Former U.S. labor secretary and Dartmouth trustee Robert Reich ’68 accuses Dhillon of presiding over the “collapse of civil rights enforcement” and helping to cover up “the murders of Americans by agents of the federal government.”
