Ben Rice ’22

Major Debut

The New York Yankees called up Rice to play first base on Tuesday, June 18. In his first Major League Baseball game ever, Rice contributed to the Yankees’ 4-2 win by hitting a single.

“He performed immediately,” according to the New York Post. “Rice drove a single into right field to load the bases in the third and grinned all the way to first base, getting his first hit out of the way.” Bleacher Report snagged a video of his elated reaction and run to first base. The Associated Press reported on his rice-eating pantomime during the team roll call.

The Yankees grabbed Rice for the minors in the 12th round of the 2021 draft.
