Grave Research

The federal government is beginning an investigation into 367 Native American boarding school sites in the U.S., plus non-boarding schools on Indian reservations, where McBride has uncovered more than 1,000 deaths that occurred between 1879 and 1934. "It's quite likely that 40,000 children died either in or because of these institutions," McBride told Reuters.

McBride double-majored in economics and Native American studies at Dartmouth and is back on campus now as a Charles Eastman Fellows in Native American Studies.
