Sharpless won this year’s Nobel Prize in chemistry—alongside two other scientists, Carolyn R. Bertozzi and Morten Meldal—for advancing click chemistry, “a swift, Lego-like method for assembling molecules that has revolutionized drug development and aided in the mapping of DNA.”
Sharpless also won a Nobel Prize in 2001. He is now the fifth person to receive the award twice.
