Ronald Phillip Weiss ’68

Ronald Phillip Weiss ’68 died on January 28 after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, colleague, and friend, Ron was a pillar of his community whose influence will be felt for generations. Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, Ron was an alumnus of Classical High School, Dartmouth, and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Ron built his life and family in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, where he remained committed to his community. At Dartmouth Ron majored in anthropology and played violin in the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra. He remained active in ’68 class governance, serving as treasurer, alumni councilor, and president (2008-13). Ron was also active in the Pioneer Valley Dartmouth Club as alumni interviewer and in multiple leadership roles. Ron was a senior partner at Bulkley Richardson, where he spent decades shaping the legal profession with brilliance, integrity, and mentorship. Beyond his legal career Ron dedicated himself to public service and philanthropy, addressing community needs and serving on numerous boards of western Massachusetts nonprofits. He was a steadfast advocate for the Springfield Symphony, holding leadership roles for decades and continuing to play violin with the Pioneer Valley Symphony. Ron leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Janet; daughters Emily and Kate ’00; and four grandchildren. Seven classmates attended his funeral January 31 at Sinai Temple in Springfield.
