Ronald B. Shores ’76

Ronald B. Shores ’76 passed away on February 15. Ron came to Dartmouth from West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Archmere Academy. He majored in engineering science and mathematics, earning a Tuck M.B.A. and a Thayer master’s in engineering. Ron was active in the Dartmouth Outing Club and Cabin & Trail. His name became enshrined in Outing Club lore when he led a group carrying a canoe up Mount Washington to the Lake of the Clouds, and the Ronald B. Shores Golden Feet Award was created after he danced a jig when Dartmouth won a woodsmen’s meet. After Dartmouth Ron joined Fischer Imaging, spending his first few years at a division in Scotland. He then moved to the Denver headquarters and led the X-ray imaging electrical engineering group. In 1987 he formed Creos with Carter Yates ’74 to develop innovative power sources for CT imaging. Creos became publicly traded, and Ron served as U.S. division president. He then went on to consult for medical technology companies and created control systems to improve product performance via sophisticated mathematical models. Ron was well versed in many engineering disciplines and held several patents. Most of all, Ron was an indomitable force of nature, known for his sharp sense of humor, wry view of the world, and infectious laugh. When he was not focused on an engineering problem, the look on Ron’s face always suggested that something funny was about to happen. He is greatly missed by his friends and colleagues. Ron is survived by his sister, Betty Anne.
