Roger Steinkamp Pierce ’52
Roger Steinkamp Pierce ’52 passed away in Cos Cob, Connecticut, on May 17. Roger was born in Fairfield, Connecticut; graduated from Scarsdale (New York) High School in 1947; did a post-graduate year at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire; and graduated from Dartmouth in 1952. Roger majored in history and was a member of Psi Upsilon and Sphinx senior society. He was also a varsity letterman in basketball. Following college Roger served a tour in the U.S. Navy, married Ann Claiborne in 1955 and went to work for Chicopee Mills Inc., a textile company in Texas. They returned to the Northeast in the early 1960s, bought a home in Cos Cob and Roger joined the textile business of Hercules Inc. He spent 27 years with Hercules in sales management and retired in 1989. He then served part-time as director of an industry association he helped found, before retiring completely. He loved sports, especially sailing on Long Island Sound, and Ann loved horses, so they stayed on at their home of 55 years in Cos Cob. Roger was an active Dartmouth alumnus with his class, the local club in Connecticut and at class gatherings in New York City. Roger’s late brother, Reginald Pierce, was a member of the class of 1946. Ann passed away in 2016. Roger is survived by children Nancy, Roger and Tyler and their families.
