Robert Thomas Collimore ’54

Robert Thomas Collimore ’54, originally from Bridgeport and Stratford, Connecticut, passed away in Elgin, Illinois, on February 28. He graduated from Stratford’s Warren Harding High School, where he was a four-sport athlete (football, swimming, tennis, and track), honor student, and class treasurer. At Dartmouth he majored in economics, was a brother at Sigma Nu, pulled oars with crew as well as a member of the rowing club, and participated in the Air Force ROTC program instituted his sophomore year. His ROTC commission led to 10 years active duty as a radar observer and pilot. Following this, he joined his father-in-law’s general insurance agency in the Chicago area. The employment opportunity survived the marriage, and he eventually became owner and president of what became Kuffel, Eggert, Collimore, and Co. Insurance. At the time of our 25th reunion, he had remarried and was playing “lousy tennis” and doing “some jogging.” In the 50th reunion book More Reflections, Bob tells of a 25-year second marriage as well as “good health, no medications, and the same amount of hair, except most of it has slipped down to my chin in the form of a beard.” Bob is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 17 years; sons Robert Jr. ’85 and Christopher; daughter Georgia; stepson Stephen; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles.
