Robert S. Medvecky ’52

Robert S. Medvecky ’52 passed away in Fort Myers, Florida, on December 4, 2021. Bob was born on February 12, 1931, in Connecticut, graduated from Stratford (Connecticut) High School in 1948 and from Dartmouth in 1952 with a government degree. He then matriculated to Harvard Law School and earned his J.D. in 1955. Following graduation Bob was admitted to the Illinois State Bar. Subsequently he gained admission to the bar in Connecticut, the District of Columbia, and Florida. Centering his practice on public utility law and corporate defense litigation, Bob began his career in 1955 at Lord, Bissell & Brook in Chicago, where he remained for two years before joining the Southern New England Telephone Co. (1957-71). He also served Amtrak in Washington, D.C., as vice president, general counsel, and secretary from 1971 to 1975. Following his stint with Amtrak, Bob returned to Lord, Bissell & Brook as managing partner of its Washington, D.C., office from 1975 to 1978. In 1978 he became a partner in the New York City firm of Reid & Priest until his retirement in 1989. Bob retired to Florida and maintained involvement with several organizations, including the Harvard Club of New York and the Fiddlesticks Country Club in Florida. After his first wife, Marilyn, passed away in 1965, Bob followed a daily swimming ritual to stay physically fit and enjoyed golf and squash. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ellen, and children Allison, Beth, and Craig.
