Robert M. Hoffman ’10

Robert M. Hoffman ’10 passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 21, 2015, in Los Angeles. At 27 years old, Robert led a short but full life. He came to Dartmouth from Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, New York. A government major with a minor in creative writing, Robert’s intellectual curiosity could be surpassed only by his dedication to and enthusiasm for the campus community. Whether leading campus tours, organizing Dimensions, or welcoming first-year students on Lodge Croo, Robert was a genuine ambassador and true leader on campus. He co-chaired Directing through Recreation, Education, Adventure and Mentoring (DREAM), served on the special programs and events committee and Student Assembly, and wrote about film and television for The Dartmouth. He was also a brother at Sigma Phi Epsilon and a member of Casque & Gauntlet. After graduation Robert pursued his dream of a career in film and television. He established himself as a tireless worker and a rising star at Scott Rudin Productions in New York City and Good Universe in Los Angeles. Dedicated, brilliant and kind in equal measure, Robert will also be remembered for his commitment to silliness. (Ask anyone who knew him about SweaterWeek, his annual ode to knitwear.) Like his sweater collection, Rob was warm, weird and made everyone feel better. For the Dartmouth community and his many friends, knowing and loving Rob was, to borrow his frequent phrase, “truly a great success for everyone involved.” Robert is survived by his parents, Jerry and Barbara Hoffman, siblings Jesse and Julia and nephew Brady.
