Robert Leonard Woodberry ’54

Robert Leonard Woodberry ’54 passed away on February 19. Bob came to Dartmouth from Newton High School in Waban, Massachusetts, where he was on the student council and a member of the National Honor Society. At Dartmouth he majored in history and was a member of Army ROTC and Theta Delta Chi. He went on to Tuck to receive an M.B.A. in 1955. Bob was active as an athlete, participating in football, lacrosse, and rugby, which he particularly enjoyed. Following his 1955-57 tour of duty with the Air Corps, Bob joined the First Boston Corp. in New York City. From there he moved in 1959 to Merrill Lynch as an account executive in Denver. In 1966 Dean Witter reached out and he joined that firm, becoming division sales manager in San Francisco. He became national sales manager in 1972, then executive vice president and director in 1977. Bob’s final change was to become director of sales and marketing at Sutro & Co., San Francisco, in 1982, moving up to president in 1986. Bob loved Dartmouth and said, “I have always been most grateful for all it did for me.” He gave back by serving in countless alumni activities, including class agent (three tours), alumni interviewer, alumni councilor, regional club president and secretary. Bob is survived by Marlinda, his wife of 62 years, and children John, Paul, Peter, and Sarah.
