Robert Daniel Sokolski ’54

Robert Daniel Sokolski ’54 passed peacefully in his home in Warren, Pennsylvania, on June 30. Born in Flushing, Queens, New York, on March 7, 1933, Bob went to the Bronx School of Science High School. At Dartmouth he majored in comparative literature-philosophy, was a brother at Phi Sigma Kapp, and met best friend Hal Conarro ’54. Bob served in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps during the Korean War, attaining the rank of captain. Following his tour of duty and discharge from the Army, Bob was introduced to his future wife, Sally Plumb. Their marriage was a true partnership and they always “spoke with one voice” in the parenting of three children and all major decisions. Hal Conarro said one of the smartest decisions he ever made was to convince Bob to move to Warren and become business partners in 1960. During the next several years Bob and Hal developed several businesses. Bob and Sally always put philanthropy as a top priority. Bob attained life master status in bridge and was a member of the Warren Shakespeare Club, Conewango Club, Conewango Investment Club, Conewango Paddle Tennis Group, and the Conewango Valley Country Club. Bob is survived by his children Andrew, Lincoln, and Elizabeth; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
