Richard Nields Warnock ’68

Richard Nields Warnock ’68 died September 29, 2021, in Exeter, New Hampshire. Born July 16, 1946, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to G. Harold Warnock and Rosemary Kipe Thompson, Dick came to Dartmouth from Conestoga High School. Outgoing and personable, he lived in Hitchcock Hall, when he participated in several intra-dorm water fights with friend Joe Grasso ’68, a friendship they renewed during a chance encounter at Atlanta’s airport in 1980. Dick was a member of Pi Lam and served as house manager. Cold weather didn’t bother Dick, and he attended medical school at University of Buffalo, graduating in 1973. Dick specialized in orthopedic surgery and practiced for 43 years in North Andover, Massachusetts, where he took great pride in caring for his patients. Beyond his devotion to medicine and his patients, Dick had a love of animals and music. He was bassist for the rock band Chippy and the YaYas, where he was known as “Doc.” He participated in rescuing hundreds of animals, and at his death was caring for two horses, five goats, four chickens, one dog, 16 cats, and an ornery rooster. Dick is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda; daughter Samantha and her husband, Francis; grandchildren Lucy and F. Henry; and sister Suzanne and her husband, Thomas. A video tribute to Dick is available at www.kentandpelczarfh.com.
