Richard Lowe Diver ’83
Richard Lowe Diver ’83 died peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, surrounded by wife Samantha; sons Christopher, Richard, and Trevor; and lifelong friends. Rich grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, where he attended the Friends School and played ice hockey. Later as a student at Deerfield Academy, he was captain of the ice hockey team and graduated cum laude. At Dartmouth Rich majored in economics, went on language study abroad to France, and was a member of the ice hockey team and Chi Heorot. Following graduation Rich joined the family business, Diver Chevrolet, started by his grandfather in 1915. Under Rich’s leadership, Diver Chevrolet grew into one of the largest dealerships in the Northeast. Rich continued to be involved with the College, serving in various roles for the Dartmouth Club of Delaware and as an admissions ambassador. He was passionate about his family, Philadelphia sports teams, golf, Bruce Springsteen, travel, and driving his Camaro to explore beautiful places. According to David Hartzell ’83, “Rich was one of those special Dartmouth classmates who seemed to know and be good friends with almost everybody from our class. After graduation he was truly a ‘tie that binds,’ to quote Rich’s beloved Bruce Springsteen, for perpetuating close Dartmouth 1983 friendships. Rich was a deeply loved classmate and will be dearly missed.” Donations in Rich’s memory may be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
