Richard D. Bugbee ’57

Richard D. Bugbee ’57 died at home on September 2. Dick graduated from Charleston (West Virginia) High School. He was a member of Kappa Sigma and was on the eight crew team. He earned a master’s in mechanical engineering from Thayer School. He attended Dartmouth on a Navy R.O.T.C. scholarship and served three years in the Navy on the destroyer USS Manley, achieving the rank of full lieutenant. Dick had a fulfilling 35-year career with the Dupont Co., with many branch moves before headquarters assignments in Wilmington, Delaware, where he specialized in photo products, with expertise in product development, sales, and human resources. Upon retirement he worked at Right Associates providing career transition support. Dick then began his dream job at Brandywine Ace Pet and Farm in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He had always wanted to work in a hardware store as a resource for people. At Ace for more than 10 years, he thrived on helping customers find the best solutions. He was an active member of the Trinity Episcopal Church for more than 40 years, serving as lay eucharistic minister and usher. He enjoyed homebuilding with Habitat for Humanity. Dick was president of three local Dartmouth clubs. He loved spending time with his family at their 1890 cottage on Heron Island, Maine, boating and playing in the island’s tennis tournament. He was predeceased by Ann Lee, his wife of 59 years, and is survived by his two daughters.
